Nurturing Connections

A psychological therapy service for parents and
parents-to-be who are looking for support along their journey into parenthood.

Dr. Katie Splevins, York-based Clinical Psychologist

Welcome

Planning a family, becoming pregnant, transitioning to becoming a mother, father, grandparent or carer, alongside parenting your child can be an incredible yet challenging experience. It is not uncommon to find these experiences at times overwhelming and distressing. Dealing with physical, emotional, relationship and identity changes is not easy. There may be experiences of grief, loss and disappointment. It is also not unusual for memories and emotions from our own early experiences or previous traumas to resurface, all of which can create emotional distress.

My passion is to support families as they begin this journey together. To offer a compassionate, non-judgemental space where parents can be heard and nurtured so they can connect with each other and their baby, and begin to find a way through the challenges.

“My little boy was unexpectedly struggling with separation anxiety and I was out of ideas on how to help him. Kate was wonderful, she listened, explained the science and provided insight to help understand and manage his triggers. Kate’s knowledge and advice provided a great framework and he is already making great progress.”
